MORIMOND ABBEY
This ancient Cistercian abbey was founded in the twelfth century on the river Buckard by the bishop of Langres Guillenc d 'Aigremont. Fourth of the first daughter abbeys of Cîteaux with Clairvaux, Pontigny and La Ferté and mother of 276 monasteries throughout Europe, one can find that she lacks charm and cause. The abbey has unfortunately suffered many destruction: wars of religion in 1532 then a century later during the Thirty Years War. After the Revolution, the abbey walls are gradually dismantled and sold as national goods, except the church. The Sainte-Ursule chapel, known as «aliens», visits and presents a permanent exhibition on the history of this site. One can contemplate its sixteenth century door, a wall of the church of the twelfth century church. The Friends of Morimond treat these ruins so eloquent, and try a careful restoration. To help them, do not hesitate to buy the BD that traces the history of this abbey, from Mathieu Flammarion, all watercolor.
