The Erstein forest nature reserve has been protected since 1989. the 180-hectare Rhine alluvial forest is criss-crossed by the Giessen river arms. The wealth of flora and fauna is exceptional! Over three hundred plant species grow here, including fifty-seven species of trees and shrubs. Ornithologists and birdwatchers alike can admire seventy-eight different birds and countless species of rare insects.
