Built in 1202 by Gui's GUI II, this Gothic building served as an observation and defence station during the 1544 siege. Almost destroyed by a huge fire in 1775 which ravaged more than two thirds of the city, the church Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption was rebuilt between 1776 and 1790. Relic of the old building built around 1202, the tower that served as a watch and platform for artillery during the siege of 1544 still remains. Four canon are sealed from the angle of this tower to commemorate his role in the battle. Many treasures have, however, been spared by these tragedies: a stained glass window of the Bishop of the Martyr, Didier (the name of Saint-Dizier), the portal and the chapel of the Tomb, which contains a remarkable tomb in the th century. The great organ was perfected by Cavaillé-Coll in 1862 and inaugurated by Camille Saint-Saëns. A magnificent Virgin to the Child was discovered recently in a chapel. This church is intimately attached to the past, which gives it special importance. Its portal was inscribed in the historic monuments of 1942 and the entire church in 1990.
