SITE OF THE ANCIENT CITY OF MOTHE

Between Soulaucourt-sur-Mouzon (the access road starts from the center of the village of Soulaucourt) and Outmécourt, take the time to contemplate the ruins of the ancient city, nicknamed the "martyrdom hill" because of its exceptional destiny. On the site you will have to imagine this real city that once had a castle, 2 monasteries and what to house 3 or 4,000 souls. We owe his creation to Christian from Denmark, niece of Emperor Charles Quint in 1546. The basement of La Mothe becomes Lorraine's second strong place after Nancy, the duke of Lorraine's duke. The kings of France took this building for provocation and the position of La Mothe (at the gates of the Kingdom of France) was already in danger. The citadel, a true fortress, suffered three seats in 1634, 1642-43 and 1644-45. The last seat was right and the city was shaved. Today, La Mothe has an association that takes care of it, restores it, makes it visit and we organize a great party in August.
