REMAINS OF THE OLD CASTLE
The first written record of this castle dates back to 1050. Originally, it was a castrum (shared space between a seigneurial zone and another for knights), owned by the first Lord of Vignory, Gui Ier. An inventory of 1773 reported a low court flanked by 7 towers (including the imposing gunboat) that welcomed the farm, stables, bays, doves and gardens. The high court, surrounded by 3 towers, included the dungeon, the tower to the Well (built in the fifteenth century), a chapel, a seigneurial mansion, a tank and dependencies. This part was exclusively reserved for the Lord, his family and his suite. Today there are still many remnants of the twelfth century dungeon, which has just been restored, from the Tower Tower and the ramparts, and then the curtines. It is one of the only champagne castles to have resisted the time. In the summer, you can become a volunteer and participate in the work. And to make nice knight photos, it's ideal!
