Neo-Renaissance style Château de Boursault, with private park and boutique, producing champagne with the appellation Château

A neo-Renaissance style castle inspired by Chambord and a private park of 11 hectares. Built in 1843 by Mrs. Veuve Clicquot, the current Château de Boursault is built on the site of the former fortified castle that belonged to the Barons of Boursault. A monumental architecture, with a high roof decorated with fancy finials at the top, windows with heavily decorated pediments. Since 1927, the estate has been producing champagne, which is the only champagne to have the appellation Château. It is possible to buy this champagne during the opening hours of the store.

We did a tour at the chateau and a tasting afterwards and it was great. Nice people and the champagne tasted very good. Prices were pretty good for the campagne region I think. The chateau looked very good and the tour was interesting. Unfortunate that the chateau is not used that much, would loved to have my own wedding here.

I was met by a man who asked me if I wanted to take the walk first or do the tasting. I asked for the tasting first, but when other guests arrived he asked if I could do the walk first instead. No problem. But he just handed me a paper and pointed me toward the castle. That was it. He didn’t tell me if I could go in or if he would meet me there. Absolutely nothing. What he did was personally walk the other guests down. We passed each other and again he said nothing. I left without a tasting and found the whole encounter to be negative. From what I could tell, the castle was closed, the grounds were in disrepair, and the tasting room was in what should have been a production facility. Of all the options to create an amazing experience for guests, this was the worst option. It was sad because the estate was really beautiful and it had so much potential to draw a crowd. The events that could be held here! It seems from other reviews that they provide a better experience to other guests. Maybe mine was an exception? I hope so.

Today we had the opportunity to sample some varieties of the Champagne from Chateau de Boursault and they were all lovely. Our host was knowledgeable and a pleasure to talk to. We highly recommend this champagne house.
