BRAMBLEBERRY BUSH WORKSHOP
Atelier du Roncier offers group visits to discover the technique of assembling and fitting small wooden pieces
Tabletier is an artistic craft requiring great dexterity, since it involves making small objects from noble and precious materials (in the past, they used to make writing tablets). Now almost exclusively destined for the luxury sector, there are still enthusiasts who passionately perpetuate the tradition. Near Lac du Der Chantecoq in the Marne department of France, Eric Henry practises this profession, working rare species of wood in his workshop to produce high-quality pieces. The technique consists in assembling and fitting small pieces of wood together. Each box, relief painting, letter opener, jewel, pendant, inlaid ballpoint pen or key-ring is unique: each piece is crafted for hours and never reproduced, making it a rare and singular object. Visits are organized for groups of ten, and include a presentation of the art of the tabletier d'art, the workshop and the wide range of wood species, some of which are little-known. Éric is an enthusiast, and meeting him is a real pleasure. If you're passing through Lac du Der, this is a stopover not to be missed.
