STATUE OF THE POPE URBAN II
A 9-meter-high statue of Pope Urban II made of 80 blocks brought from Port-à-Binson by oxcart.
Born in 1042, Count Eudes de Châtillon renounced honors to join the Benedictines of Cluny. Pope Gregory VII asked him to become his advisor and then appointed him as his successor. On March 12, 1088, he was named Pope and took the name Urban II. He is known for having preached and organized the first Crusade. The 9 meters high statue is made of Kersanton granite and was realized in Vannes by the sculptor Le Goff. It is composed of 80 blocks which were brought separately from Port-à-Binson by oxcarts.

Le site de la statue d'Urbain 2 offre de magnifiques panoramas sur le vignoble champenois. Il y a également les ruines d'un chateau à côté de l'immense statue.
Stationnement difficile aux abords.
