CHURCH OF CLESLES
Churches, Troyes already has many of them and each village has its own. But this one, at the crossroads of the Marne and the Aube, not far from a pretty canal where you can have a picnic, is unusual and delightful. If its central bell tower points its nose into the sky, it is indeed its Saracen tower that is incongruous. In the heart of nature, the eastern dimension of this tower makes the Saint-Antoine-Saint-Sulpice church an essential stopover. The top of the tower, wrapped around itself, ends with a cross. The legend of Ogier d'Anglure tells that Sultan Saladin freed the baron in exchange for a sum of money that he could not raise. A deal followed, around three conditions, one of which was that one of the Lord's sons should be called Saladin and above all that he would build a temple to worship Muhammad. This is how we can admire this work now, even if in the meantime it was called Tour aux Fromages!
