HÔTEL LA VILLA EUGÈNE * * * * *
Luxury hotel with 15 rooms all equipped with a minibar in Épernay.
Opened since September 2005, this hotel is a former bourgeois house of the late 19th century, which has belonged to Eugène Mercier, founder of Champagne Mercier, and transformed into a hotel of fifteen rooms each with their own style and a unique decoration, but always of great luxury and true refinement. All of them are equipped with minibar, safe, air conditioning, bathroom with bathtubs and enjoy the latest technologies (telephone, Internet, LCD flat screen TV with satellite). You can relax in the champagne bar, in the cosy small lounges, or take your breakfast in the glass restored in the style of this residence and enjoy the view of the park. At the edge of the terrace, you can also enjoy the heated outdoor swimming pool at any time. Villa Eugene has a free and closed car park in the property. The hotel's website presents a gallery of many photos giving an excellent overview of the beauties of the address.

The breakfast was very basic so we only had breakfast at the hotel on the first morning. The other mornings we went into Epernay for breakfast (Matin Gourmand was great).
Upon checkout, despite our enormous disappointment, the lady at reception tried to charge us for parking even though we had never been informed of a parking fee.
The hotel is grossly overrated as a 5 star property. It should be listed as 3 star at best. The owners are clearly not investing in the property and trying to make extra money from hidden parking fees and overcharging for a horrendous breakfast. It feels like the owners have run out of money.
A very, very sad property to which I wouldn’t never, ever return.
