THE VINEYARD COAST
Visit of the vineyard hill, a nice viewpoint on the region located in La Neuville-au-Pont
There is a strange drop in ground as we leave La Neuville-au-Pont in the direction of Vouziers. The hillside at Vignes is a nice view of the region, which you must absolutely take advantage of. Below, cross the Aisne river in the middle of the pastures. A particularly steep staircase of 118 steps engraved with litanies to the Virgin Mary, allows you to go down there. A statue of Saint Ménehould watches over the benevolent fountain and the valley. Legend has it that in her hermitage on this hill, Ménehould, daughter of the Count of Château-sur-Aisne, is said to have made a spring gush forth by striking the ground with her cattail! Even today, it is still celebrated during a Pentecost pilgrimage.
