BENEDICTINE MONASTERY
The Benedictine monastery at Saint-Thierry, welcoming retreatants and groups wishing to share in the community's prayer
Saint Thierry, a disciple of Saint Rémi, founded the abbey in the5th century. From 1121 to 1135, St. Bernard's friend Guillaume de Saint-Thierry, famous for his writings, was abbot. In 1777, the community was expelled and the abbey razed to the ground. Monastic life resumed in 1968 with the arrival of the Benedictine nuns of Vanves, a community founded by Marguerite Waddington-Delmas. Today, the monastery welcomes retreatants and groups wishing to share in the prayer of their community.
