AMERICAN WHITE MOUNTAIN MONUMENT
After a fierce fight, the 2nd American division managed to conquer the Blanc Mont site on October 3, 1918. To commemorate the feat of these 70,000 American soldiers, a monument was erected in 1937, designed by New York architect Arthur Loomis Harmon. The building is a 20-metre high square tower whose walls are decorated with the insignia of the four divisions that took part in the fighting. Inside this tower, a staircase of 77 steps will lead you to a panoramic terrace that offers a breathtaking view of the former battlefields, the Suippes and Mourmelon camps, the Fort of Douaumont and the Argonne massif.
