VITRY-LE-FRANÇOIS AND THE BATTLE OF THE MARNE
Go there and contact
Vitry is a key city with its strategic location. In the midst of an invasion, the city suffered numerous attacks. The war of 1914-18 brought this destiny to its worst end, the city being located on one of the main axes of the German advance. Almost at the beginning of the war, on 5 September 1914, the city almost completely emptied its inhabitants when the Germans entered it. But, on 6 September, the French troops went to the offensive and it was the beginning of the battle of the Marne on the outskirts of Vitry, with shells flying over the city and injured people coming to hospital, colleges and schools. The city was then to be decorated with the War Cross.
