CLUB AJACCIEN DES AMATEURS D'ASTRONOMIE
Go there and contact
This astronomy club welcomes the public every Friday evening from August 1 to May 31, starting from 9:30 p. m. or 22 p. m. depending on the period, from its observatory located at the Vignola Scientific Center, west of Ajaccio on the coast. These evenings are intended for both simple and families with young children. The program of celebration breaks down: discovery of the sky and the main constellations, initiation to orientation through stars, observation of the sky through telescopes, and possible observation of atypical transient phenomena such as the passage of the International Space Station into the sky (visible in the form of a large luminous star crossing the sky at moderate speed), and the "Iridium flashes" (artificial satellites that suddenly become very bright in a specific area of the sky).
But this club does not stop in such a good way as it offers other interesting activities… An "Astronomy at Sea" cruise, which takes place in summer, every Wednesday, from June to September. It is in the Gulf of Ajaccio that it can be done for about 2:30 a. m. on an old rigging to the Bloodthirsty Islands. A surprising initiation that leaves the mythological fairy tale attached to the heavenly vault. It is imperative to book by contacting J.-P. Roux at 06 11 58 12 18. This cruise is not recommended for children under 8 years of age. The exit depends exclusively on weather conditions (cleared sky, low wind), it can be canceled at the last moment. In the summer, the club joins the vocal ensemble Arpège to present the show the "Stars in Stars" (about 1:15 a. m.) astronomy linking astronomy (spectacular images made by the Hubble Space Telescope) and songs (sacred ones in particular). Other activities are also proposed: conferences, night nights nights, "shooting stars" and "mythological tales", or evenings organized according to astronomical news.
