On the Lavezzi islands, sailors reinforcing for the Crimea found their final resting place. The maritime cemetery was renovated in 1979.
The La Sémillante cemetery, located on the Lavezzi islands, is a place steeped in history. In February 1855, the sinking of the frigate La Sémillante left its mark on the Bonifacio region. Carrying reinforcements for the Crimean front, the ship sank, leaving many bodies washed up by the sea. These sailors were buried on the Lavezzi islands, forming a maritime cemetery. Since this event, the site has been renovated in 1979, preserving the memory of these men lost at sea. A place of meditation and remembrance, paying homage to sailors.
