ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH
Church rebuilt between 1770 and 1780, home to the Confrérie de la Miséricorde and two processional groups.
Seat of the brotherhood of St. John the Baptist, the church of San Giuvani Batista was rebuilt between 1770 and 1780 in its present location. It replaces the one razed in 1722 by the military. It was the seat of the Confraternity of Mercy (aid to the sick, funeral services) and houses two processional groups. The shrine representing the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist travels through the streets of the Citadel on Good Friday evening, carried by men in the middle of the crowd.
