Holy Friday takes place throughout Corsica with special processions and different from North to South. In the north it's cerca, a, and granitula. A cerca (of the circà verb, search) is a rural procession that leads to a large displacement of the population. It takes place on the dawn of Good Friday and takes place on a journey of several kilometres, to finish at noon.
Preceded by children, porteurs carriers, it is led by brotherhoods under the guidance of the prior and prayer (called mazzeri, massiers, in the Brandu region). In the south, processions bear the name of casci and catenacciu. The catenacciu (de catena, chain) is a ceremony that takes place in several points on the island, on Good Friday. The most famous is Sartè (Sartène). It is a staging of the cross path that Christ made during his Passion; it is found in several Mediterranean countries, particularly in Spain where it is sometimes very spectacular.
