A convent that is a place of prayer and life, animated by an association that regularly organizes concerts, parties..

A jewel of our heritage, well worth a detour or even a spiritual visit. On the road to Arbori, the convent of Saint-François de Vico was built in 1482 around a modest chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony. Originally, it housed humble cells for the monks, who lived there in self-sufficiency and according to vows of poverty. The convent was enlarged in the 17th century with more pomp and circumstance and the involvement of the Catholic community of Vico. Set in a magnificent mountain landscape, it is now a place of prayer and meditation, and a popular hiking destination. This religious building is home to Corsica's oldest wooden Christ (16th-century Italian school). U Santu Franciscone is the convent's treasure and the largest crucifix in painted polychrome wood (1.85 m), dating from the late 15th century. It is believed to be the work of an Italian master. In the past, it was carried in procession, mainly to bring rain in times of great drought. Why Saint Francis? The convent was originally that of the Franciscan congregation. A place of prayer and life, it is now occupied and animated by the brothers of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate community. The building hosts a cultural program organized by the Friends of the Convent association. By prior arrangement, you can stay in the guesthouse, which is open to individuals, retreatants and groups, in rooms or dormitories. A soothing, meditative retreat.
