From prehistory to the Roman Empire, explore Aleria's archaeological remains in a historic monument with a rich past.
This museum, housed in the Fort de Matra built by the Genoese in the 14th century, exhibits the archaeological remains discovered in Aleria. The fort has witnessed an eventful history, even welcoming Theodore de Neuhoff, King of Corsica, in 1736. Classified as a historic monument in 1962, since 1978 it has housed a museum retracing fifteen centuries of Corsican history, from protohistory to the end of the Roman Empire. The exhibits provide an overview of Corsica's ancient history.
