Archaeological site consisting of a necropolis and a pre-Roman rampart in Aléria.

The ancient town of Aléria is one of Corsica's largest Roman settlements. The ruins of the ancient town were first described by Prosper Mérimée (1803-1870) during his trip to Corsica in 1839. The archaeological site includes a necropolis and a pre-Roman rampart, as well as the partially excavated remains of the ancient Roman city. The website offers a wealth of details on the excavations and the results of recent research, but nothing beats a visit in situ to soak up the atmosphere of the site.
