CITADELLE DE BASTIA
Standing majestically on the heights of the port, Bastia's Citadelle bears witness to the Genoese era in a historic district
Bastia's citadel was built in the 14th century on a hill overlooking the port and surrounded by the Terra-Nuova district. After being the residence of Genoese governor Leonello Lomellini, it was reinforced under Louis XV. Its ramparts, built between 1480 and 1521, bear witness to its historical importance during Genoese rule until 1768. Bastia's Citadel is a picturesque historic district, with remarkable monuments such as the Governors' Palace and Sainte-Marie Cathedral. Its view of the Tuscan archipelago is magnificent.
