A house overlooking the market square and plunging into the calm waters of the Old Port.
Adjacent to the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church, the Viale house overlooks the Place du Marché and plunges into the calm waters of the Vieux-Port. It was here in 1787 that the poet Salvatore Viale was born, and from 1828 to 1852 he served as an advisor to the Bastia Court of Appeal. His most important work was the Dionomachia, a long poem dealing in heroic-comic fashion with an absurd quarrel between two Marana villages, Borgo and Lucciana, over a dead donkey... Although written in Italian, this work includes a text in the Corsican language that is considered to be seminal.
