THE GOVERNOR'S PALACE
The palace of the Genois Governors appears as a historical cradle of Bastia, a maritime city, whose prosperity from the sea gave rise to a bourgeoisie from the Middle Ages. Overlooking the old harbor, the fortress combines a dungeon with high walls, and has a huge reserve of water, giving the strong place a autonomy in case of siege. It was, under Genois, the image of political and military power with the installation of the Conseil supérieur de la Corsica. Its present form dates from the seventeenth century, but its construction began in the fifteenth century. He became military cantonment in the last century and suffered damage from German troops during the last war. Since 1952, the Palace of Governors has been home to the Museum of Corsica Ethnography.
