A GRANITULA
The Granitula is a procession that takes place in Corsica on Good Friday. It retraces the long Calvary of Christ carrying his cross. In Calvi, the procession of A Granitula takes place in the evening: two hooded penitents take turns carrying the cross. The procession descends from the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in the citadel to the church of St. Mary Major in the lower town. The penitents are accompanied by members of the brotherhoods of Saint Erasmus and Saint Anthony. On the square in front of the church, chanting sacred laments, they form "A Granitula", a symbolic penitential procession, which consists of winding in a spiral, then unwinding and then going up towards the cathedral.
