. Close to the oratory, was a residence of Napoleon's godfather who had to find pleasant to be on holiday on another part of the Corsican coasts. Don't visit, as property of the Legion. Take a tower of citadel, to see the different bastions and enjoy the panoramas, on the bay, on the mountains, on the Gulf of Revellata, depending on the location. Outside the citadel, in the shopping town, the church Sainte-Marie-Major - th century - and its Gothic steeple. In front of the citadel, the slender silhouette of the statue of La Fame, a work by the sculptor Fremiet, who was not only the nephew,   but also the pupil of François Rude. A fortified city, Calvi consists of a high town, or citadel, and a navy. At the beginning of the Christian era, the city, founded by the Romans, occupied the location of the current low city. During the second half of the th century, a war between lords was at the origin of the foundation of the high city. In 1420, Alphonse V, King of Aragon, took over Calvi. The Spanish garrison was massacred one year later. From 1453, the city passed under the control of the Office de Saint-Georges, which swept it from the walls. Until the 1794 th century the city remained faithful to Genoa, supporting even a two-month siege against Paoli and the English fleet in. The citadel, defended by the general of Casabianca, resisted attacks and bombings of the English gunners installed on the Serra Hills and Fort Mozzello. Finally defeated, it will remain under the domination of the English for two   years before becoming French. From 1938 to Liberation, Calvi became a military fortress. The port was used during the landing in Provence on 15 August 1944. Today, the tourist city of Calvi has been able to organise cultural and sporting events which give it the image of an enterprising city.
