SAN GIOVANI CHURCH
Church abandoned in the century, a ruined building whose apse structure is still visible
In the lower town, you can admire what remains of the 9th- or 10th-century church of San Giovanni and the baptistery of the same name, both listed as Historic Monuments. The church is now in ruins, but you can still see the structure of the apse, built of reused Roman bricks. The baptistery is better preserved. Since 2007, Corsica's Portuguese community has gathered here in May to celebrate their patron saint, Our Lady of Fátima. After a procession, a mass is sung by a Portuguese choir.
