WONDERFUL STAIRS
The city centre of Besançon is located in a meander of the Doubs. It's the Loop and its citadel. Staircases allowed builders to manage the space constraints associated with this feature. These are often built outside buildings, grabbing a few square metres of living space. Screwed or straight, often in stone, decorated with ironwork for the so-called "noble" floors and simple wooden panels for the others, the exterior stairs are a real architectural feature of the centre of Besançon. They open onto hidden inner courtyards that are worth a visit. Reservation required from the tourist office, departure from Place Bacchus, rue Battant.
