Museum with an important local Mediterranean archaeological heritage, including numerous sculptures and ceramics.

What strikes you first when you enter the museum is the singular architecture, an amalgam of a grain store built in the 19th century and a raw concrete structure in the style of a "museum of unlimited growth", a concept invented by Le Corbusier. The two architectures interact, as do the archaeological and fine arts collections.
As part of the French and international cultural landscape, the oldest public collection in France, founded in 1694, can pride itself on the richness of its collections. In addition to the international reputation of its graphic art collection (more than 8,000 drawings), the museum has an important local, Mediterranean and Egyptian archaeological heritage, numerous sculptures, ceramics and pieces of silverware, and an exceptional collection of paintings representing the main currents in the history of Western art from the end of the 15th to the 20th century.
Let yourself be surprised by the Besançon Museum of Fine Arts and Archaeology, one of the most atypical in France.

Painting

Sculpture

600 pieces divided into two periods: the Middle Ages and the 18th century.
