CISTERCIAN ABBEY OF GRACE-GOD'S GRACE
Former Cistercian abbey with 35 rooms, 5 meeting rooms and a store with monastic crafts from other monasteries.
This ancient Cistercian abbey was founded in 1139, in a wooded valley 30 km from Besançon, by monks from the Charité abbey in Haute-Saône. The first two centuries of its existence were the most flourishing, witnessing the birth of numerous vocations. The monks, now numerous, developed the region and built farms in the surrounding area. The 14th century saw the end of this prosperity, with the abbey plundered several times during local wars, and surviving with difficulty until the French Revolution. It wasn't until 1929, however, that the site was revived after successive dismantlements, thanks to the installation of Cistercian nuns. The community of Cistercian nuns left in 2004, to be replaced by a community of Travailleuses Missionnaires de l'Immaculée de La Famille, attached to the Société des Missions Africaines de Strasbourg. These missionaries continue the tradition of welcoming individuals, families and small groups for spiritual retreats, prayer stops, recollections and training sessions.
Services: daily mass and invitation to share in the community liturgy from Lauds to Compline. Times vary from day to day.
Accommodation: 35 rooms and 5 meeting rooms for stays of around 1 to 8 days.
Store: the store offers a wide range of products and objects made by monastic craftsmen from other monasteries.
