NOTRE-DAME-DES-PASSES CHURCH
Church overlooking the city of Arcachon, remarkable for its Greek Orthodox style reminiscent of Byzantine churches
Overlooking the town of Arcachon, the church, a former Dominican convent, is remarkable for its Greek Orthodox style, reminiscent of Byzantine churches. Built in 1863 on top of a dune, it was enlarged in 1928 and became a parish church in 1993. The choir and nave are adorned with superb frescoes, mainly depicting angels. Its special feature? A statue, almost unique in France, of the Virgin Mary in pregnancy, known as La Vierge de l'Avent.
