What is the Cité du Vin in Bordeaux?
The Cité du Vin is a space dedicated to the discovery of wine through various exhibitions and events. It was opened in 2016 in Bordeaux, world-renowned for producing some of the finest wines in the world. Its innovative architecture, designed by Anouk Legendre and Nicolas Desmazières, is reminiscent of the curves of a glass in which wine is swirled.
The site is halfway between a museum and a theme park, with permanent and temporary exhibitions, as well as a variety of events. The Cité du Vin has thus become an emblematic Bordeaux landmark.

Here are the must-sees when visiting the Cité du Vin de Bordeaux.
The permanent exhibition
A visit to the Cité du Vin de Bordeaux begins with the permanent exhibition. It forms an intuitive journey divided into 6 universes, enabling visitors to discover the history of wine over the millennia and the culture that surrounds it in the different terroirs of the world. The exhibition makes full use of interactive and immersive technologies.
The Belvedere
This is the name given to the 8th floor of the building, which offers a 360° view of Bordeaux. Like the rest of the site, it is located indoors, which is why visiting the Cité du Vin is an ideal activity when it's raining in Bordeaux. At the Belvedere, you'll be offered a drink included in your ticket, whether it's a glass of wine or a non-alcoholic beverage for those who don't drink.
Temporary exhibitions
In addition to its permanent tour, the Cité du Vin hosts temporary exhibitions on the theme of wine. In 2025, for example, visitors can follow the Via Sensoria, a one-hour sensory tour accompanied by a sommelier. Other temporary exhibitions can feature artists or focus on a wine-related theme, such as a specific terroir or the place of wine in design.
Wine-tasting workshops
A variety of wine-tasting workshops are organized on site, from how to succeed in this difficult exercise, to how to design a wine and food pairing, or how to recognize wines from around the world. It's an unusual activity to do in Bordeaux.
The restaurant: Le 7
Le 7 is the restaurant of the Cité du Vin, so named because it is located on the seventh floor of the building, offering a prime view of the city. Here, you can dine on refined dishes based on local produce, and enjoy a wine and food pairing. The children's menu is offered free of charge, making this a perfect family activity in Bordeaux.
The boutique
Your visit to the Cité du Vin in Bordeaux ends with a visit to the boutique. It's a veritable Ali Baba's cave of the wine world, with books on wine, sommelier accessories, beautiful glasses, products from Bordeaux vineyards, objets d'art, and even candles with the scent of red wine!
