Exceptional restaurant with fully open kitchen in Bordeaux.

At Mazal, the Mediterranean-inspired cuisine sublimates the product, and surprises as much as it delights. From beef carpaccio served on the table to flambéed mackerel, from traditional casseroles to crème brûlée with marrow bone, the experience is daring! The wine list also cultivates its singularity, with more than 130 references, and the cocktails are signed by Florian Boubet, chef-barman trained at the Honk-Kong school. Every evening, the bar lights up to announce the end of the service and the beginning of a festive evening...

We made reservations for two. When we arrived, the owner or at least the person who acted like the owner, wanted to sit us at the bar stating there were no tables available. There was a table for four and he said he had to keep that for a reservation which stayed empty for the night. On our way to the bar, we noticed a table for two and inquired about it. After some awkwardness, we were seated there. Later, free drinks and sparklers were brought to everyone but us. This and some weird interactions made us feel he did not want these two foreigners at the restaurant. Of course, we don’t know the actual motive.

On the positive, food was good and the waitress was excellent.
