GOBINEAU HOUSE
House built by Charles Durand on the plans of Victor Louis in Bordeaux.
It was only in 1785, when the old fortress was definitively demolished, that the Maison Gobineau could be built by Charles Durand on Victor Louis' plans for the adviser of the Thibault-Joseph de Gobineau Parliament. The building, crowned by a recessed mansard roof, has a triangular base and rounded corners. We notice that its balcony and balustrades face the Grand Theatre. Around 1920, the architect Raymond Mothe created the luxurious decoration of this wine palace, including stained glass windows by René Buthaut and a tapestry by Marc Saint-Saëns. It is now occupied by the CIVB, the Interprofessional Council for Bordeaux Wine.
