The famous philosopher Michel Eyquem de Montaigne (1533-1592) was a humanist thinker, author of the famous «Essays», friend of La Boétie and a Magistrate of the important role in the political life of his time. He was mayor of Bordeaux for four years! A plaque mentions the existence of his family home on the site. Inside are the remnants of an oratory, but it is not possible to return. So you'll have to settle for the facade.
