The Boucle Verte, a 160 km long hiking trail, marked in red and white, is the first metropolitan GR in France. The project was undertaken in partnership with the Fédération Française de Randonnée Pédestre. It crosses 17 communes including Bègles, Bordeaux, Gradignan, Mérignac and Saint-Médard-en-Jalles, and links the main natural areas and urban parks of the metropolis. It passes from gentle plains to panoramic hillsides, from rehabilitated riverbanks to preserved marshes and offers magnificent and unique views of the urban area.
