GALLO-ROMAN TILTING FURNACE
It is here, in the Bois de la Pommeraie, that one of the oldest ovens in France is located. It dates from the 3rd century. This Gallo-Roman tile oven, in Villers-Farlay, is part of a site that extends over 4 hectares south of the village. It included other artisanal structures as well as dwellings. It is of an astonishing size and in a remarkable state of preservation. Several thousand tiles could be fired in a single batch, which lasted on average one week. Restored in 1990, it is included in the additional inventory of historic monuments. Information panels give visitors some very useful explanations.
