SAINT CHRISTOPHER CATHEDRAL
The church Saint-Christophe became a cathedral in 1979 and set its classic facade of rose sandstone on the Place de'in the old heart of Belfort. Classified Historic Monument since 1930, it was built in record time from 1726 to 1750, thanks to popular generosity. Inside, all the sculptures are franc artist Antoine Cupillard. You can also admire the paintings of the Belfortain painter Gustave Dauphin. The large organs, works by Valtrin de Mirecourt, were built in 1749. They are among the most beautiful organs of France and their exceptional acoustics give rise to concerts. The South and West sides were restored in 2004-05 and 2006-07. After the work on the North and East façades, the rehabilitation of the North Tower is under consideration.
