The national necropolis, inaugurated in 1924, was in operation until 1935. It contains the remains of 919 French soldiers and 8 foreigners who died in the town's hospitals during the First World War. The Battle of the Borders in Haute-Alsace is also retraced, illustrating the first confrontations of the conflict. Military hospitals in and around Belfort are presented, highlighting the city's role in caring for the wounded during the war.
