THE CITADELLA
A surprising and majestic 11-hectare site to discover on a tour with a special audio-guide for younger visitors.
Unavoidable! Dominating the city in its rose sandstone dress of the Vosges, this «sublime» citadel was designed by Vauban from the medieval castle. From above, we discover a wonderful panorama of the city, with the north of the Vosges mountains and the south the foothills of Jura. A true place of remembrance, the citadel invites the visitor to relive the history that has made the reputation of the city, especially the resistance of Colonel Denfert Rochereau. The outdoor route of the visit leads small and large ditches into bastions. For younger people, a quiz version of the audio guide nobody the walk. The large underground of the citadel offers a spectacle of sounds and lights. You will also discover the famous Lion, a symbol of the courage of men during the war of 1870 and the siege of the city. A museum of history, located in the former barracks, allows to continue the journey over time…
