THE MILL OF COURTELEVANT
Mill located in Courtelevant, today a house rehabilitated by the association of the Friends of the mill.
On the banks of the Vendeline, classified as a historical monument, on the ancient Roman road Mandeure-Kembs, it is the main attraction of the village. The mill, whose first construction dates from the 16th century, was sold after the Revolution. The same family operated it for a century before it was gradually abandoned. Today it is a beautiful house, rehabilitated since 1988 by the association of the Friends of the Courtelevant mill which ensures not only its safeguard but also its animation. We have been able to preserve the old parts and open this museum of milling techniques. A bucket wheel has been installed, the mechanism of the rotunda is superb. Also to be seen is the large spinning wheel and its alluchons (wooden teeth), the English millstone of 1816, 4 flint millstones, and the cylinder mill of 1830. Festive events are organized in June, in September for the days of the historical monuments, in October for the week of the taste and in December for the Saint-Nicolas. Finally, thanks to the team of enthusiasts, flour is once again being ground at Courtelevant and you can learn how to make your own bread. The domain also hosts lodgings in an old barn of the XVIIth century that has been rehabilitated and that can be rented for private events (40 beds) or for company seminars.
