STRONG BASS DRUM
Built between 1874 and 1877, this fort was not modernized, with counterscarp coffers instead of caponiers.
Built between 1874 and 1877, it represents the type of strong "à cavalier" with open positions for distant artillery artillery; the close defence artillery and the infantry are located on the bottom rampart, the ditch. This fort has the particularity of being constructed with chests instead of caponiers normally used at that time, the use of the contrescape chests (less vulnerable because located on the other side of the ditch) only ensuring after 1885. In time of war, a garrison of approximately 180 men was planned for the arming of guns. Once built, the fort will always be kept away from modernization.
