THE HOUSE OF CARYATIDS
These caryatids, five pious statues placed on the top floor, are very characteristic of the old inn, the Maison de la Corona, which served at the time of a municipal hall and a court of justice. The cariatide placed at the centre symbolizes justice. On each side, a bourgeois couple and a couple of poor people represent the equality of all before the law. At the beginning of the th century, the house was sold (it was only leased to the innkeeper by the city). Put by the European reactionary coalition after the defeat of French troops in 1815, it houses, among others, Frédéric-Guillaume III of Prussia and Tsar Alexander I. Today it is home to the Datira Café, the meeting place for the commune.
