FORT DE GIROMAGNY OU FORT DORSNER
One of the most astonishing military works of the region, offering a glimpse of the defensive choices made at the end of the 19th century
Built between 1875 and 1879 of pink Vosges sandstone, Fort Dorsner bears witness to the strategic vision of containing and repelling attacks from northern and eastern Europe. Positioned to control the Belfort Gap, with a view stretching as far as Alsace, the fort dominates the Savoureuse valley. Powerfully reinforced, it had 47 cannons and could house up to 650 men. The fort reveals the architectural and military ingenuity of its era.
