PANORAMA OF THE PLEXUS
Panorama at Amfreville-sous-les-Monts, offering a spectacular view of the Château des Deux-Amants, a site steeped in history.
This limestone spur, overlooking the Seine and the Andelle valleys at a height of 150 m, offers two ideal viewpoints, close to the Château des Deux-Amants, one of which is equipped with an orientation table. But who were these two lovers? Calixte and Raoul’s story is a very sad legend. Raoul, very fond of Calixte, proposed to his father. This one imposed a condition: Raoul would have to climb to the top of the steep hill, without stopping or resting, with Calixte on his back. The young man took up the challenge and set off. Arrived exhausted at the top of the hill, he died at the end of the journey, and the girl died of sorrow. Struck by remorse, the father would have them buried together and built a priory on the top of the hill. Marie de France made this legend a famous narrative poem, The Two Lovers. The most courageous ones can access it via GR2. Some of them fly away from this site by paragliding.
