SAN MARTIN CHURCH
Church that preserves two rows of rectangular pillars from the late 12th century, a square tower and some Romanesque elements
The history of the church of Brionne is that of a long series of destructions and reconstructions: founded in 1030, destroyed in 1124 by Henry II of England, it was rebuilt in 1183, then at the end of the Hundred Years War. The present building dates from 1458, but retains two rows of rectangular pillars from the late 12th century, as well as a square tower and some other Romanesque and Gothic elements from the same period. Inside, you will discover the counter-table of the high altar designed around 1694 by the monk-architect Guillaume de la Tremblaye.
