SAN MARTIN CHURCH
You will notice the beautiful Romanesque porch flanking the nave to the south of the church, the black flint checkered gable and the two decapitated statues. The church of Condé is composed of a single nave from the 11th or 12th century, covered with a wooden barrel vault, and a choir rebuilt in the 18th century following the collapse of the Romanesque bell tower in 1765, the day before Easter.
The cult of Saint Martin. In Normandy, a large number of parishes are called Saint-Martin, including 89 churches in the Eure region. The abundant iconography of the saint, who came to this region of Gaul, shows how important his cult was in Normandy. Without having received baptism, Martin was already living according to the Gospel through his good works, helping the sick, helping the poor and giving food to the needy. The one who became Bishop of Tours remained famous for the scene of charity that earned him the nickname of Martin the Merciful.
