Grétais Abbey with a rich cultural programme, offering guided tours with the owners of the site.

A magical place and history! This ancient abbey was founded by Herluin de Conteville and his wife Arlette (mother of William the Conqueror, buried here) around 1050 following a dream. Suffering from a serious skin disease, Herluin dreamt of the Virgin Mary. The Virgin led him to a fountain to purify himself. The abbey was then built in homage to Our Lady. Keeping alive the memory of Arlette and Herluin is the mission of the site’s owners, thanks in particular to a rich cultural program of guided tours, lectures...

C’est un endroit incroyable! Rempli d’histoire. Nous avons été accueilli par le propriétaire des lieux ainsi que des artistes qui sont d’une gentillesse exceptionnelle. Ils nous ont partagé l’histoire de ce lieu qui aspire à la paix et l’apaisement. Merci à vous Monsieur de nous offrir un bout d’histoire à travers votre jardin.

personne pour vous accueillir malgré que le site est indiqué comme ėtant ouvert. l'intérieur des bâtiments n'est pas accessible. après avoir tėlephonė, l'on m'a indiqué avec gentillesse et compréhension de profiter du jardin si le temps s'y prêté. de passage à uniquement aujourd'hui et arrivant de Rouen . je suis très déçu.
