A magical place and history! This ancient abbey was founded by Herluin de Conteville and his wife Arlette (mother of William the Conqueror, buried here) around 1050 following a dream. Suffering from a serious skin disease, Herluin dreamt of the Virgin Mary. The Virgin led him to a fountain to purify himself. The abbey was then built in homage to Our Lady. Keeping alive the memory of Arlette and Herluin is the mission of the site’s owners, thanks in particular to a rich cultural program of guided tours, lectures...

Really beautiful grounds and building. It's quite small, so a visit is maybe 30 minutes if you really take your time
