133m high lighthouse, built in the 1840s as a guide for boats on the Seine estuary.

Today classified, the Fatouville-Grestain lighthouse, perched 133 m above sea level, guided boats on the Seine estuary in the 19th century. It was built in the 1840s and inaugurated in 1850. Erected inland, 7 km from Honfleur, and with a range of 40 km, it was designed to monitor the boats sailing up the estuary. It operated for more than half a century using whale oil and rapeseed oil. Decommissioned in 1907, the lighthouse was then sold at auction in 1923 by the State. Currently, it is Anne Durand, the great-granddaughter of the buyer, who lives there and has converted part of it into a bed and breakfast. The 164 steps of the spiral staircase are worth the effort because, once up there, the view of the Normandy Bridge, the Seine estuary, Honfleur, and Le Havre is really impressive!
