The Lieurey Herring Fair is not to be missed every 11 November. An event where you can enjoy not only herring but also many other Normandy specialities! Legend says that its origin dates back to the forced arrest of a merchant convoy in the city during the Hundred Years War, because of snow, which forced them to sell their merchandise at the auction point to the inhabitants to prevent it from being lost. Since tradition, there are no fewer than 10,000 visitors every year! A contest of the biggest herring eater is organized at each edition.
